Ho Chi Minh's stilt house and the Presidential Palace in Hanoi: 2026 ticket and route
Ho Chi Minh's stilt house stands in the grounds of the Presidential Palace, a short walk from the mausoleum. The yellow, colonial-style palace can only be seen from the outside: you cannot go in. What you visit is the park and the small wooden house where Ho Chi Minh lived from 1958 until his death in 1969. Allow about 45 minutes to 1 hour. The ticket costs between 25,000 and 40,000 VND depending on the source (one 2026 guide gives 40,000 VND; another, undated, 25,000 VND for foreigners), so bring a little cash. Highlights

The stilt house
A very simple house of wood and bamboo, on stilts by a pond: an open space below, a work room and a bedroom upstairs. Ho Chi Minh refused to live in the neighbouring palace and chose this house, which you see from outside and through the openings.

The Presidential Palace
A yellow building with columns, built in the early 20th century for the governor-general of French Indochina. Today it is used for official receptions and cannot be visited; you photograph it from the gate and the driveway.
The park and the pond
A shady path leads to the pond, the fruit trees and the walkways. It is one of the quietest places in the district; local tradition says Ho Chi Minh fed the fish in the pond.
The surroundings
The mausoleum and the One Pillar Pagoda are in the same area; the visit naturally forms a single loop, preferably in the morning.

Tips
- Hours vary by source: 7:30am to 11am and 1pm to 4pm are quoted, every day except Monday and Friday (undated guide). The site may follow the mausoleum's annual closure (4 September to 2 November in 2026) or official events: call or ask your hotel before you come. Same dress as for the mausoleum: shoulders and knees covered. Touching objects and entering the house are forbidden. Avoid the "guides" who approach you outside the gate.
How to get there
Hung Vuong Street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi, next to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (about 2 to 3 km from the Old Quarter). By Grab or taxi, 15 to 20 minutes; on foot, 30 to 45 minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake. Several buses stop nearby.
