Fansipan cable car in Sapa: ticket price 2026, weather and tips
Fansipan (3,143 m) is the highest peak in Indochina. A cable car of more than 6 km, opened in 2016, climbs it from Sapa: the ride takes about twenty minutes, then there is still a staircase of about 600 steps or a funicular to reach the summit. The adult return ticket costs about 800,000 to 850,000 VND in 2026 according to guides (800,000 on weekdays and Sundays, 850,000 on Saturdays and public holidays according to one source); the operator, Sun World, adjusts its prices from time to time. Allow half a day, more if you add the funicular and the summit temples. See also: Sapa, rice terraces and villages and the Sapa trek from Hanoi.
Highlights

The cable car
The cabins cross the Muong Hoa valley above the rice fields and forest before climbing to the ridge. In clear weather the view over the terraces is the high point of the ride; in fog you see almost nothing, so check the day's weather.

The summit at 3,143 m
On the ridge there is a flag, an altitude marker and a group of temples and stupas. The air is cool and the wind strong even in summer; the sea of clouds is the reward of clear mornings.
The Muong Hoa train
A small train links the town to the cable car station: about 200,000 VND return according to one guide (not confirmed). It saves walking or taking a taxi to the departure point.
The summit funicular
It spares you the climb on foot; guides quote about 150,000 VND going up and a similar amount coming down (figure not confirmed). The staircase stays free for those who prefer to walk.

Tips
- The prices quoted come from 2026 guides, with no official page confirmed in October 2026: ask for the fare at the ticket office or on the Sun World website. Children between 1 and 1.4 m pay a reduced fare (about 550,000 VND according to guides), under-1 m are free. The Vietnamese press announced a small access fee of 10,000 VND for visitors aged 16 and over on the massif from January 2025: check whether it applies. Combined offers (cable car, train, lunch) exist at around 1.25 million VND according to one guide. Dress warmly: you go from the mildness of the town to a summit that is often cool and windy. If you prefer to climb on foot, the trek takes one to two days with a guide; see the Sapa trek to compare options.
